Which controls does this page describe?
These NFS Underground 2 controls follow the public nfsu2-web player guide reviewed on October 28, 2026. They apply to the PC browser recompiler’s documented defaults. A deployment may run a different revision, and settings saved in your browser may change a binding.
The original Windows game and the browser project are related but do not have identical surrounding interfaces. The browser project adds its own page menu, save management and browser-specific actions. A handheld emulator has another input layer again. Check the controls shown by your chosen project’s start page before treating any list as universal.
Browser keyboard reference
| Action | Documented key |
|---|---|
| Accelerate, brake/reverse and steer | Arrow keys or W / A / S / D |
| Use nitrous | Alt |
| Apply the handbrake | Space |
| Shift up / down with manual transmission | Shift / Ctrl |
| Change camera / look behind | C / B |
| Respawn | R |
| Horn | N |
| Map / messages | M / Tab |
| Pause | Escape or P |
| Confirm a menu choice | Enter |
| Open the browser project’s page menu | F9 |
| Cycle the frame-rate display | F8 |
| Photo mode while driving | F12 |
Some actions depend on the current mode or installed in-game equipment. A key that does nothing in a menu may still be valid while driving. The project’s full guide also covers extra actions and photo-mode navigation; consult that reference for specialized controls rather than guessing a shortcut during a race.
Find and change a binding
The player guide directs key changes through the game’s Options → Controls. Open the project’s current Controls view as well, because it describes actions handled by the web interface rather than the original game’s input settings.
Before changing a binding, pause and check whether the browser or operating system already uses the same combination. Test one change in a simple scene and write down the result. If a keyboard has an Fn layer, an F-key may first control a device function; that is a keyboard setting rather than proof that the game ignored the command.
Keep an input method available that can navigate the menus. Rebinding several actions at once makes it harder to find which change caused a problem. If you use manual transmission, verify both gear directions before starting a race.
Controller setup
Connect the controller, press a button, and use the project’s Controller settings and Controls panel to inspect its mapping. The exact device model, browser and operating system can affect recognition. Do not assume that a controller working in another application proves that the browser has exposed the same layout here.
Start by checking menu navigation, steering, throttle, braking and pause. Only then test optional functions such as rumble or a controller shortcut to the page menu. A browser or operating-system overlay can intercept the Home button. The project guide describes alternative menu access; keep the keyboard option available if a shortcut opens an unrelated overlay.
If the keyboard works but the controller does not, avoid changing graphics settings. You have already isolated a narrower input problem. Reconnect the controller and inspect its settings before restarting a session with unsaved progress.
Touch controls on a phone
The project documentation describes its own Android Chrome touch layout, including driving buttons and selectable steering methods. Use the Controls panel on that game page to see the choices available in the deployed revision. The controls can step aside for menus and reappear while driving.
Try landscape and portrait orientation, then adjust control sizing through the project if the layout allows it. Test simultaneous steering and throttle, braking, and the ability to reach pause without covering another action. A touch overlay drawn by this independent guide cannot send commands into an unrelated cross-origin game, so this site does not provide one.
Touch support and graphics support are separate. A phone can display a page correctly while failing the game’s graphics checks. Read the requirements guide if the game has not reached a playable view.
Fullscreen, focus and browser shortcuts
Click or tap the game before testing a driving key. Check that the address bar, a search field or a settings input is not focused. If the game is running in another tab, return to that tab instead of opening more copies.
Escape has browser-level behavior in fullscreen. The project’s documentation specifically notes Firefox’s immediate fullscreen exit and provides P as a pause alternative. Use the game’s page menu to leave or quit normally whenever possible, then wait for save confirmation before closing the tab.
For an input that still fails, record the key or button, the current screen, the browser version, and whether another input method works. Continue with the input troubleshooting steps. That evidence is more useful than repeatedly resetting every preference.

This independent guide distinguishes project documentation from device testing. External projects can change after our review.
